Which sewing machine? Laura Ashley or Horizon?

I have not heard of Laura Ashley but I have had both Janome 6600 and now I have the Janome Horizon. I love my Janome but I wanted more functionality and a little more throat area for FMQ. So I sold my Janome 66 to my girlfriend and brought the Horizon at the Houston quilt show. I have had no problems with the 6600 or the Horizon. I loved my 6600 but I really love my Horizon!!!
For pricing if you can, you really should shop around. I did! I had a LQS that wanted to sell me the Horizon for 2999.00, another one that wanted 2700.00. I am so glad I waited until the Houston Show. I was able to get the Horizon and the sewing table for $2250.00 (that included shipping and no sale tax).

I tried the Laura Ashley and the Janome 6600. I liked the feel of the 6600 better and when I FMQ'd on both, I felt the Janome had a little better stitch quality. If I could have afforded the 7700, I would have purchased that instead. However, I am very happy with the 6600.

Hi Hattie,
I looked at the Laura Ashley but never tried it out. I did try the Horizon and loved the substantial feel of it plus the features. It also has the Accufeed. I don't know if there is a comparable feature on the Laura Ashley.
But...my real reason for posting...the day I went looking for a new machine, the dealer kept pushing me toward the Viking. I asked about the Horizon - had never seen it before - and they told me that I wouldn't want it because it had a lot of motherboard problems. Kept pushing me back to the Viking. I left without making a decision and went back a week or so later - at the beginning of the month. When I returned, guess what they wanted to show me - you guessed it - the Horizon.
I'm convinced that there was a Viking quota to be met by the end of the month.
I can't say for your dealer, but my experience is that they push you toward what they want to sell, be it because of a quota target or because of what they have in inventory. Where you mention that your dealer would "order" the Horizon to try out again, it suggests to me that she wants to sell what's in stock.
Try both and buy whichever one you prefer. By the way, I **love** my Horizon.

thank yous to each one who responded to my question about the Jonome Horizon and the Brother Laura Ashley....I truly appreciate your taking the time to help me with this decision....which is a big deal to me....the dealer wanted me to take the Laura Ashley home over the weekend, but I told her I really wanted the Horizon, even if it wasn't " user friendly"....I order the Horizon, mostly based on what you all told me...thanks so very much, Hattie

I have the Laura Ashley for a little over a year and love it! I like it even better than my Bernina 440 QE which I hardly use anymore. The features it has all are useful. I am sorry it doesn't have a dual feed, That's about the only doo dad it doesn't have. The auto threader is the easiest I have ever used, needle up/down, thread cutting, the option to sew using a button instead of a foot pedal. It has a large harp so you can easily fit a queen sized quilt through for stitching. It has more stitches than I will ever use. Can't speak about the other model, but the Brother machine is a good one.

I purchased my Brother Laura Ashley last month and love it. I think it just depends on our individual likes with regards to a machine. I tried the Janome and the Brother the same day and enjoyed the Brother more. I have not regretted my decision. The machine is so user friendly and stitches beautifully. There seem to be many very happy Janome users on this board so I know you are going to be very happy with your machine.
Happy stitching!

I was looking at machines the other day and the dealer told me that the Brother QC1000 is the same machine as the Laura Ashley Innov-is NX2000.... it just doesn't have Laura Ashley's name on it. They are both made by Brother.
I still haven't decide which machine to get between the Janome Horizon 7700 and the Brother QC1000 or none at all. The first one is twice as much $$$ as the second. It's not like I don't have three other machines already. But that Horizon is so pretty!

Which Laura Ashley are you looking at? There are 3 of them.
I wish I had considered Brother more when I bought my machine.
I ended up with a Bernina 430E, and LOVE it. My second choice was the Horizon 7700, but it was another $1000 and didn't do embroidery. I would have loved the extra harp space, but that $1000 was just too much for me.
The NX2000 was the same price as the Bernina, but with the large harp space. For some reason, I got in my head if I was getting a larger machine I would get the Janome. I didn't even sew on the Brother
Now I regret it because it had SO many features that I have to pay big bucks to upgrade my Bernina to (a gajillion feet, circular sewing) and many things my machine can never do (multi-directional sewing, pivot function, thread cutter) It doesn't embroider, but the dealer was offering a free serger. I now wonder if I could have asked for a free cheap embroidery machine instead of the free serger. That would have solved the problem.
The Janome was REALLY nice. I mean REALLY nice. But just too far out of my price range (it was $3000, with a table)
So my thought: make sure you sew on all the machines you are considering. And don't let the gorgeous red color fool you into discarding another choice.
However, with every machine doing something slightly different, I think there is alway a little bit of "what if" that will remain.
