I agree.....and also that it's none of my business. But I'd get her a nice Brother or something that she'll be happy with and so you won't feel you took advantage. Even if she sews only once a year, she needs something that works and will last.

My thought was that she would trade for an older Singer that could sew. Somehow an $89 Target doesn't fit the deal. Maybe show her how to use the Disney machine? None of my business either. LOL But I love my cousins and would want to help.

I also have this same machine and love it my granddaughter uses it more then me though she taught me how it works but I do have a friend that bought one and she has trouble with hers too all the time we have offered to help her with her machine so maybe one of these days can get her up and running too.

My cousin calls me and is fed up with her Disney se270d machine and can not get it to work right.. She is doing something wrong with the bobbin, not loading it right or wrong size bobbin, well she now does not want it... she just wants an older singer of some sort to just plain stitching... so I say, " wanna trade me for an older one that works and does straight stitches" ? She says YES!! so ok, I am sure it is an over sight on her behalf.... I just got the disney machine............. fine by me...

I have that machine, bought it 6 yrs ago to keep at daughter's house & get it out every time I visit, love it. My sister, an aunt and a coupe of friends also have that model & love it. It has a great stitch but I don't think I'd ever buy another machine with the cartridge threading, takes more time than regular threading.
I don't think that model is made anymore or in stores, sometimes I see a refurbished one on the Internet.
Actually it is a super sentimental machine for me, I flew to my daughter's (different end of the country) when they got the word that a birth mother had chosen them to be the parents of her newborn. So exciting!! I knew I would be there for at least 2 months so ordered that machine from Walmart, knowing I would want to sew & embroider baby things. Now that baby is in kindergarden & when I visit he likes to see me get our "our" machine, he brings me clothes that he has saved out that need mending.

Maire,
What a delightful story of your memory maker machine. I love that he saves his mending for you to do. Pretty soon, you can teach him how to sew, too.

I bet you'll love the machine. I don't have that one but I have another Brother embroidery only machine which I love. But my every day Brother sewing machine holds the spool of thread just like your "new" machine does. I actually like that feature.
