Now that I'm an empty-nester, I've inherited the middle bedroom, which is approximately 10x12. I am having bookshelves built on the 12' wall, and will use two pieces of 4x8 foam insulation covered with batting and one 4x8 pegboard for "doors". That way, I have all the shelves but my "stuff" is hidden from view, plus I have an 8x8 design wall and a pegboard for all my rulers and tools.

I've already had shelves put in the closet for my fabric, which is wrapped on plastic sheets I got at www.polarnotions.com. I bought 300 of them and didn't quite use them all. It sure has made shopping from my stash a lot easier. I have my first dresser (I was 6 when I got it) in the closet, too, and it holds my bits and pieces (fat quarters, charm paks, etc. The pre-packaged batting goes on the top shelf, and my various machines go on the floor under the bottom shelf. I also use expandable file folders to hold UFOs, WIPs and kits, as I can put all the fabric, the pattern and any specialty rulers all in one place. They are also good for storing the patterns that come in the 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 plastic sleeves.

Not sure if this was meant for me or not. But I created a thread specifically for my tip here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-62316-1.htm

It's also a part of the new virtual room. :)

Sounds like a great idea. I just painted, new hardwood floors and put in 4 bottom cabinets that I have been storing my material in. I also have an large rectangle ironing board that lays on part of it and my cutting boards lay on the other half. It looks really nice BUT - Now I have 4 large plastic bin of all the sewing "STUFF" and don't know what to do with it. I go in and look at all the STUFF piled up and turn around and leave. OH WELL at least my sewing machine is up and working.

Great idea. I have a giant bag of yards of batting in our new storage building because of no room
But the funny thing is I have a huge roll ob batting and I have it covered and it is setting in my garden tub that we don't use. Hey it works, for now!!
I would love some ideas. I have a small walk in closet and it is filled from floor to ceiling and wall to wall of shelves that my Great hb made me and it is fill with [2 rows back] of just fabric.
Plus a stack in a cabinet. I just need to stop buying.
My poor guest bedroom has gotten overwhelmed with Stacking drawers, machine cabinet, cutting table and a large. felt board.
Definatley in need of an overhaul.HEEEEEEELP.

This is a great idea. My rooms are a mess. I really want to do some quilting today, but if I don't get some things straightened up, I won't have room to cut a 1" square.

Close the closet door and all sun is away from your fabric as well as dust........

The wall hanging (hubby made) is for my thread and is a God-send........holds close to 75 to 80 spools and that also keeps the dust off the thread.

Hope these help someone....they sure have been a big help for me.

The spool "closet" is sooo cute! Asked my non-carpenter DH if he could make one...and he thinks so!!! Am so excited!

Just looked at that link and love it. I'm a container freak. I want everything "in" something. I can't tell you how many zip lock bags I use but I like the food container idea better: they would stack better. The baggies slip and slide. What a fantastic idea.
