Good grief, how can anyone sew in a sterile operating room-like sewing room?

Of course, losing the cat or a small child in a pile of fabrics may be reason enough to clean the room, but not until it's really necessary.

DH can go all day without talking-he works at home. Just let me go and start the sewing machine and all of a sudden he's like "Chatty Cathy".

Yup, husbands and kids are all the same. Just sit down at the sewing machine, or get on the phone long distance (with an expensive phone company) and instantly DH will need something desperately or son will come running to tell you that he told teacher you would bake five dozen cookies for next morning's school party and you have to call teacher to find out what kind. The very act of putting hands on a machine or phone triggers something in their minds that demands instant notice and not later, but now!

Oh my and I thought I was the only one. It isn't only quilting its beading painting or any other thing I might be working on.
My DH calls the kitchen table my sewing table and the kitchen island my cutting table. I am so glad to know it isn't just me. Thank you all for confessing uh I mean posting.lol

Thanks for the laughs. I was frustrated. A few glasses of wine and I am feeling better. I did have to stop sewing though.:o)

I guess I am anal. I like my sewing room in order. I pick everything up when I am done for the day because I don't like to sew in a mess. But boy watch out while I am sewing because I am like Elanor Burns. I just through all my scraps over my shoulder.

Yep! I'm in agreement with all of you. Specially about the DH not talking until its sewing time! As soon as I'm ready to sew all of a sudden he starts talking too. So what I do is invite him to come into the room with me because I'm going to sew. A couple of times he has joined me. He comes and talks for awhile and I start asking him about my project what he likes and doesn't like - ya know quilt talk - well he gets bored really soon and usually doesn't hang out too long! Then since I give him the talk about spending time together he decided ok I'll come and read for awhile but then I talk to much and with the sewing machine humming that was too distracting! Then I said come and watch tv for a bit but he ends up falling asleep so he totally understands now when I tell him I'm going to sew for awhile! :thumbup: :thumbup: He's a great man and I really think he likes his peace and quiet times!

As far as a mess in the sewing room-it all depends. It is unorganized when I'm sewing you tend to find things easier!
I try when I have to stop to have it somewhat cleaned up at least so you can walk in the room. After each project I take time to clean it up only to start fresh with my next project. :D :D

Jingle

I clean up and put everything away after I'm done sewing for the day.
It is best because I share my sewing room with my 4 cats and the will get hair all over my quilt.
I must clean all the hair, litter, and food bits up everyday when I go in to sew. Oh yeah, and sweep the floor also.

Never had a sewing room, but would love a little cottage all my own. One can dream, right.lol

I am lucky to have a nice sewing room, dh has been wonderful in assisting with making a big board ironing board, putting up shelving, peg board and such. I do have the same issue though of sit down at the sewing machine, and next thing you know it is "where you at?" I have my sr upstairs and I get plenty of exercise running up and down. Maybe that is a good weight program!
