I've never heard that before...don't the feed dogs just go in the opposite direction?

I've never heard of this and I'm super excited for some straight line quilting work I need to do around a New York Beauty type star.

    Do other machines do this?
I have the same machine and didn't know it did that either> Thanks for sharing.

My Brother can sew sideways. It's a quilting machine.

A treadle will only sew backwards if the feed dogs can be reversed, otherwise you just end up with a snarl. If a machine can do reverse stitching, you can sew in reverse for as long as you want. Why you would want to I don't know, but it's fine to do so.

Absolutely. You can't harm a machine sewing in reverse.

I own a Husqvarna Diamond Royale and it sews sideways. It is a good feature. I'm sure there are lots more for me to learn about this machine, I just traded up from the Diamond to the Diamond Royael. I love the Husqvarna Machines and I also have a Husqvarna Serger. I also own a Elna 740 and it is a great Machine as well. There are many great machines out there, it is just your preference of what you are looking for. I have a friend who just boughet the new 15000 Janome and it is awesome but not my preference.

My Feather Weight has a lever that you can set the stitch length and if you push it all the way up it sews backwards. I have two treadles that have this same feature.
