Many times I have to add words too when one word will do. So I tend to think well if I'm adding filler it may as well be something I want to talk about, semi related to the post or not.

I have learned to not cut everything first. I understood the principle but realized how important it was, when I started my niece's quilt--with Northcott Stonehenge fabric--and made a mistake on the size of the first piece. I still have those pieces all cut 1/2" too narrow. It cost me close to $100 because I no longer had enough fabric to finish the quilt and could only find it at a US shop--with prohibitive shipping costs of course.

But I also learned that it was easier for me to cut enough pieces say for 10 blocks, make those blocks, and then cut for the next 10. I did not get as frustrated or tired and I also made fewer mistakes.

I love the pattern you are working on and it is on my bucket list.

I can't believe all the pieces- it's my second day and I'm nowhere near finished cutting.
I think it may be a good idea that I didn't realize in advance. I may have not started and I
really want to make this quilt.

You convinced me to start piecing and go from there

The pattern is pretty, not enough to make me want to make it.

Just hang in there and before you know it, it will be done.

I just ordered the pineapple ruler from MissouriStar. Can't believe I'm entertaining that one.

Looking at that quilt, all of the units are very basic. I know I sound like a broken record, but I would use Deb Tucker's tools for the FG, HST, and Snail Trail blocks. I also would limit myself to a few blocks at a time to avoid boredom. Can't wait to see your finished quilt.

I ordered her triangle tool yesterday. I should have it tomorrow. I agree with you about the blocks. The cutting is taking forever! I'm taking a break and will start stitching

I haven't made this quilt but I find that scrappy takes so much longer to cut. Thank goodness Bonnie Hunter spreads cutting and piecing in her mystery quilts. I don't know how I would have managed En Provence if we had to cut everything before piecing.
