I think they are so cheap I wouldn't even try to sharpen one.

I do sharpen by seam rippers and sergical blades. I collect them until i run out of sharp ones then sharpen them all at one sitting. First I put on leather gloves. I take my dremel tool with a cotton polishing disc. apply red polishing rouge to the cotton disc. turn on dremel then sharpen ripper with the wheel running from the thicker part towards the edge. turn the ripper over and repeat on the other side. being careful always make sure the wheel is not turning into the sharp edge. you don't want a sharp object flying out of your hand! when sharping sergical blades you only need to sharpen the side with the bevel. again make sure the wheel is not turning towards the sharp edge. this sharpens them pretty quickly. Hope this helps.

Well my knife sharpner didn't work, the emery board was a no go and the foil didn't work :cry:

I just don't have time to run to Joanns and get a new one and I am on the last block ripping it out :thumbup: Then I get the pleasure of remeasuring all the blades and putting them back together ***big sigh**** they are for the fall Dresden block swap due on August 31st so I must press on :thumbup: Just can't believe I went through 3 seam rippers :shock: LOL

I love my clover seam ripper!

And also a possible tip on making the dresden plate blocks...sometimes, depending on your cutting and sewing, it may be necessary to alter your seam just a BIT...start your seam by sewing 1/4", and then make the rest of your seam just a hair over 1/4" and that will help with the excess you can sometimes get and help the plates lay flatter.

I bought some long files that are rounded at Home Depot. Harbor Freight might even have some of these. They were inexpensive. I've used them to sharpen my seam rippers and widen the open area of sewing machine feet so I could move the needle over 1 space and still use my favorite feet.

OMG!! What happened? Try diamond dust file or paper. It worked great.

I've ripped probably 300 pair of pants down far enough to make shopping bags. adn probably ripped down 100 sheets for fabric-------------in fact, I'm supposed to be ripping out two pair of pillow cases right now.
