    you can purchase acid-free tissue paper from Clotilde's.
    i put a piece of scrap cotton batting across my shelves and a piece of muslin just to make sure there was no reactions between the fabrics and the wood.
    one set of shelves that i put tools and gadgets on i have cork shelf liner on, that seems to work well too, protects the wood and the tools.
