My Bernina 440QE is not working now, sounds like the computer power source, and I could not go the whole weekend without sewing, so I brought out my 38 year old Bernina 830. I gave her a cleaning, oiling and a new needle and now she purrs like a contented kitten. Shame on me for leaving her unused for 4 years. I bought the machine new when I was in high school and now I'm almost ready for retirement, and the machine is still going strong. It was just like seeing an old friend after a few years.

The same thing happened to me with my Pfaff 262 as seen on the right in avatar. I bought her brand new in 1968 and used her constantly. It was folded down into that cabinet for 8 years with stuff stored on top. Then one day I said, time to reunite! It took more than just a cleaning and oiling to get all features working but after a trip to the shop for servicing it has been a workhorse since. Gotta love those old mechanicals.

BTW, I am retiring. Last day at work is June 10th! Then I can sew sew sew!

My mom bought an 830 40 years ago and I used it daily for about 15 years. My sister gave it to my OTHER sister and I am the only one out of the 5 girls who sews! Still mad over it (obviously) but the machine is still going strong at least it was before it went into storage....

I still have my 830 and love it. I was given an 803 that also purrs like a kitten. I leave a jeans needle in that one to sew heavier things.
