short of fabric for binding - help?
i just realized i am very short on fabric for binding this quilt. usually i do a double fold bias cut binding, but i just don't have enough to pull that off this time.
it is a handquilted queen sized quilt. i don't think it will be washed very often, but i need your opinions about how to bind it with what i have, or if i have few options but to do either a patchy binding or buy a metre of something to just do it "properly."
thanks

It seems that you have the options you suggested. I like the look of a binding pieced from the leftover fabrics in the quilt. Or do you have enough to do a cross-grain binding rather than bias cut?? (And I think "properly" is a matter of personal preference...)

How short are you? You could cut your binding strips 1.5", and sew to another 1.5" wide binding strip of scrap fabric. Then when you double fold, the scrap fabric is on the inside and no one will know any different. I have done single fold binding in a pinch in the past, but I don't really like it - doesn't seam as durable. Is there absolutely no way to find matching fabric to buy extra for the binding?

Thanks so much for starting this thread. I may be short of binding fabric on the quilt I am making now. The store did not have enough of the fabric that I wanted for binding. Krista, your suggestion of 1,5 strips will work for me if I am short. Thanks so very much! I had not thought about doing that.

I would do the 2 sided binding. You can get the correct measurements here.

It is possible someone here on the board has the fabric you are short of and would be willing to part with it. How about a picture of the fabric? I am more than willing to look in my stash.
And here is a link to what one person did with different fabrics for the binding.
