I love scrappies! With a tighter budget, I still enjoy fabric shopping but do it in a different way now. Instead of buying a yard or two or three :-), I get 1/3 or 1/4 yard cuts to add to my strip bins. Gives me lots of variety and shopping satisfaction!

You may very well be correct about the reason, but, personally, scrap quilts don't appeal to me at all and I've cancelled two quilting magazine subscriptions because all they have in them are patterns and articles related to scraps. I tried making one once to see what all the fuss was about and hated it so much I gave it to the dog to use. Good thing there are all different tastes in the world of quilting!

I do hold onto my scraps though. Every now and again I'll see a post of someone looking for scraps so I'll fill an envelope and mail it off. I like big block quilts myself but I have made some quilts with 1 inch finished squares. I don't have the inclination to mess with little futzul's (my word) of left over fabric.

Being on disability, I can't afford to just run out and buy at whim. I was going thru a very tough time, money wise, but determined to quilt anyway, I pieced a scrappy..It became my favorite...Now when I buy fabric for an "organized" quilt, I look at the remnants and try to picture it in a scrappy!~!

I do think that scrappies are quite popular.. just look at the quilt magazines , lots of scrap quilts. I think it was the perfect storm ... high cost of fabric, small pre-cuts with lots of colors and patterns, and the need for more color in tough times.
I have always liked the randomness of color in scrap quilts. Truth be known I have traded yardage for "premium" scraps.

Scrap quilts are my favorites too...I have a lot of fabric to use and am trying not to go shopping unless I need borders, sashing or backing. I have had to be more thrifty since my husband passed away 8 years ago...but have always loved scrap quilts.

Wow - didn't think there would be this much response to my post........... so happy to see so many scrap happy people.
Wouldn't it be great if we could all meet with our BIG bins of scraps and trade........ I am always willing to take scraps of the hands of people who don't want them. Thanks for all your responses.
