I purchased a box of mixed colours of silk thread. Slowly over the last 3 years they have been used to turn up trousers, buttons, loops as well as needle turn applique and binding. In fact every time I hand sew I use my silk threads. I have never used the, in my sewing machine so don't know how they work there.

Huh! I've never sewn with silk. I'll have to try it for my hexies, I have trouble with thread tangles.

Silk thread is supposedly stronger than poly or cotton. ?? I use it for all things handwork. Love it.....(except for my wool applique, I should add...)

Huh, I never thought of using silk thread for needle turn applique - tried it today and I'm a convert!

A few people asked if I would post my Handkerchief Quilts that I made. Thank you sew much for asking! The hankies are from my Mom & Grandma. I made a quilt for my Mom and myself. The quilt with the bow at the bottom corner is mine. The ribbon and buckle were from dresses I wore in High School to Prom and Homecoming... with my then boyfriend, now hubby of 44 years!
With the exception of sewing the binding strips on, they are 100% stitched by hand with that LOVELY Silk thread!! I am hooked on this stuff!! I loved making these so much, I have been collecting pretty hankies for a few years now to create at least one more.
Thank you for asking me to share my Handkerchief Quilts.. the idea came from the book, 'Hanky Panky' by Cindy Brick.

I am certainly going to give it a try on my next applique project. I love the great tips shared on this board.

I bought some a few years ago and love it for needle turn applique. I can't remember where I ordered it from, but there are 5 spools in various neutral shades packaged in a clear plastic tube. I use the light grey and beige most of the time and the thread just disappears into the fabric. Thanks to all of you for ideas for other uses.

Divokittysmom, your handkerchief quilts are lovely! I too have some of my grandmother's Hankins. What size are your quilts? I am thinking about doing a wallhanging for my sewing room.

Divokittysmom the quilt is so beautiful. Sharon Schamber has a new line of silk thread very reasonable in price in every color you can imagine.
