And the 301 uses the same bobbin and bobbin case as the Featherweight. That was the reason I first bought a 301.

I've been drawn to the 301 because of its vertical bobbin case. That plus the feed dog drop is great for FMQ, I've been told. The 99 has a horizontal bobbin case, which does not work well for FMQ, so I've been told. My 403 has the horizontal & I can't get it to FMQ, that's what got me started learning more about some of the other Singer vintages. I'm now on the lookout for a 15 or a 301.

Hello everyone. Thought I would let you know I did buy the 301 and she is wonderful. I spent the first night cleaning her up, inside and out, and oiling/greasing her. She runs beautifully. Here are a few photos.

WooHoo!! I just won a black shortbed 301a on eBay this weekend for $73.00 plus shipping. I have to get her a new foot pedal and power cord, and her short tail is chipped so I ordered a new one. They don't know if she works, but said that the wheel turns and the needle moves. Can't be all bad, right?

I'll be putting pics up when she arrives...no name picked yet.
