Somebody got a steal of a deal on a 301 this afternoon. I think it was in California and in the last few minutes it was at $41.00 (Ebay) My computer froze, so I don't know if it went higher or not.

I think I’ve lost my Singer 301A. I put it in my wife’s cabinet so she could try FMQ with it, and she LOVED IT! She likes it for straight stitching too, so she’s keeping it in her main cabinet. She popped it out and took it Quilt Class the other evening, then brought it back and popped it back in. I think she’s decided that it’s a really nice “all-around” machine for what she does. We have a spare set of cords for it that she can carry in her quilt bag, so she doesn’t even have to take the cords out of her cabinet when she heads out of the house with it.

So for now, we’ve moved the Industrial Singer 96-40 (it had been her FMQ machine) out of her cabinet line-up and moved in another cabinet for her Singer 401A. We may set the 96-40 up elsewhere for FMQ on larger quilts, but we haven’t decided where for sure. Her projects recently have called for using the 301A (ss) and the 401A (zz), so she had been folding one machine down in the cabinet and using the other on the surface above it. Now, with the second cabinet, she has both the 301A and 401A set up so that all she has to do is spin her chair from one to the other. If she spins the other way, her serger is there ready and waiting to be used as well.

The Singer 301A works well for FMQ, and here's a couple of photos of Bear (my wife) doing her "squiggles & wiggles for giggles” FMQ with my 301A. It’s the 3rd of July, so she’s working of patriotic stuff this weekend. The project that she’s working on will be new recliner runners (like table runners, but for draping over the back of our recliners in her sewing room parlor) for our use tomorrow and for any future patriotic events until she decides to make new ones.

I recently purchased two 301A about 4 weeks apart. I am in LOVE with mine. I cannot believe how fast the thing sews and how consistant it is for piecing.

Plan A is to put one of them on the used Grace frame we bought off of craislist and to use the other 301A for piecing and smaller FMQ.

I kinda would like to rescue every 301 I find because they are terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrific machines. People just don't know, do they? :-D

Not much! I will have to measure.

Charlee, you don't have a 301? Course', I didn't realise what I was missing until I stumbled on to both of mine on craigslist.

I just rec'd the feet I ordered from Sew Classic...a 1/4 guide foot, FM foot and walking foot...I've tried FM on my modern machine and not very good at it...But I have to say I did so much better on my 301 I even surprised myself how much easier it was to work with...So I might get this FM thing down using my 301...

This is my 301 that I bought from an ad on CL, paid $40
The flash makes it look smudgy but it is pristine as is the cabinet and stool. Also came with a lot of attachments.
