Were the pre-wound a better buy or, are they just convenient? (Nothing wrong with convenience, that's for sure!) _:-)_
From the email from Singer, I assume the prewound are not on a 15J bobbin. I wanted them for the convenience and because I read on the board here that they hold more thread so are far more economical.

I have used about 300 or so. I can easily use 3-4 bobbins on one embroidery project. I think the one here:http://ck.upickem.net/engine/Details...sionID=4171667 used 2+ bobbins per face! The whole picture was over 150,000 stitches. It was done on a Brother PR600 machine.

It makes perfect sense why you'd want them! Shame they don't offer them on more universal bobbins, especially for the Singers, a brand that's been around since ancient Rome!

That's a lot of thread! I don't have an embroidery machine but, if I contemplate buying one, I'll start stocking up Now!

My vintage Singer 15-99 can use prewound bobbins. The 301 and Featherweight will not and my Singer Quantum will not.

I would suggest getting a Side Winder and lots of plastic bobbins and just winding a bunch. That's what I was doing.

I was thinking of doing the same thing but Viking says not to use the Side Winder. Don't know why.

The only problem I had with the Side Winder was when I wanted to use big cones of bobbin thread I did better when I put the winder on the edge of a table and the cone on the floor.

I just bought cones from Connecting Threads and was wondering how to use the Sidewinder. Think I will try your suggestion!
