Has a good straight stitch and zig zag. Tension works fine. I have mine in the motorhome and take it with me when we are camping. It works fine.
My vintage Featherweight does not drop the feed dog either, however, I free motion with it all the time by setting the stitch length to zero.

AND I think you can usually put a card or something over the feed dogs, seems like I have heard that. :-)

Yes, I bought one....I "fought" with it for years. After I got "hooked" on quilting, I took a quilting class and yes, you guessed it, it broke down during the class. I threw it in the trash the next day and went out and spent the money on a good machine!!!

DH picked one up for me last year and finally guilted me into seeing what it will do. So made some scrap blocks. Works fine, no problems. It will never replace my main squeeze, but it will be a reliable back-up, or the machine I pull out when my middle school neighbor is ready to come see Auntie Pam for quilt lessons.

I bought one about 15 years ago. The one that was advertised to do all that heavy sewing was much more expensive than the one they advertised. I bought a $400 one and a lot of extras to go with it, but in actuality, when I think about it now, I paid way too much for too little. I used it for about 6 years and bought something I really liked with all the bells and whistles for about the same amount. WalMart does have some really nice Brothers at a reasonable cost. I have bought 6 or 7 different sewing machines at ALLBRANDS.com and have been very pleased with my purchases and the costs.
