    Default Singer treadle

I am working on getting an old Singer Treadle machine working. I have cleaned and oiled everywhere. Everything is moving smoothly. However, the upper thread is not being caught by the bobbin. I've turned the needle around, I've investigated every nook and cranny and cannot figure this out. Any help out there would be greatly appreciated.

You will get all you need on the vintage board. They know almost everything re: old machines.

What kind of bobbin does the machine have? It may be the wrong needle in the machine as well. Hard to tell without more information about the machine.

Likely needs timing...I do my own on my older machines.

Welcome, June. You said you turned needle around, which was my first thought. You don't say which Singer you have. Is it a 15, 27, or 66? Is the bobbin threaded correctly? A picture would help. Do you have a manual? I would exhaust all other possibilities before trying to time a machine.

We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf
Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button.

I have found that only the big red "Reply" button or "Quote" work to give me the paper clip icon to work for adding pictures.

Additionally, when I have tried to "insert" pictures, it will take a while even if it is just one picture, after clicking on the paperclip icon. (This is after you have hit the "Upload" button and closed that window.) You will see the "busy" icon at the top of the page or tab spinning for a while before it list the pictures that it will attach.

Are you threading the needle correctly? Turning the hand wheel the correct direction? I was using my mother's old machine Saturday (not a Singer) and it wouldn't pull up the bobbin thread depending on which way I turned the hand wheel.

Good point, Betty. I have a Junker & Ruh that has reverse. I finally determined which way the hand wheel turned to be able to get it to pick up the bobbin, then I could figure out the reverse vs the forward position.
