I even find my self putting 4-5 fabrics together for one when I think "that would be a good 6-hour quilt. Is it me or has anyone managed to finish it in 6 hours?????
I have noticed, the TV sewers such as Nancy Zieman, sew crazy fast. And of course, they have all the room to spread out, tools, etc. to make a project go smoother.

My first solo quilt was a "Quilt in a Day" pattern. It took me three months to get the top put together, then I paid someone else to quilt it. However, the sense of accomplishment felt great when it was finally done.

I think they are counting 'actual sewing time'. My D1 has a clock that I can set to show me actual sewing time on a project. But that is only when the machine is running and, lets face it, that's the least amount of time involved with piecing!

This includes cutting it out, pressing, starching, etc. You will be shocked how much time you have into it. Remember all those famous quilters have "schleppers" that do their cutting, starching, etc. Even if they "claim" to do it all themselves, I bet they have someone cleaning up after them, putting their tools away in the proper spot, changing machine needles, lubricating, de-linting and all that fun stuff that we so enjoy doing.

Years ago I went on a quilting weekend and we slept about 3 hours a night, the rest of the time we were cutting or sewing. We did manage to finish a "Trip Around the World quilt" and a "Lone Star" done pretty much the same way. I really enjoyed being around that many people who were all totally involved with their quilting. No distractions. It was fun but when I got home I was flat out. I think those were the first two quilts I ever made now that I think of it.
