    I am planning on making my first table runner. I am planning on using traditional quilt blocks that I will put on point. If these blocks are 12 inch and I add triangles to square up the block, what size will the new block be?

    measure the block diagonally. That should be fairly close to the finished block size. (minus seam allowances)
