I have a Babylock Quest. It's been having an issue lately with skipping stitches. I changed the needle, made sure it was in tight, re-threaded, redid the bobbin, redid the presser foot and after reading the trouble shooting page in the manual-I increased the pressure on the presser foot.

I'm sewing in strips now so keep checking...and there was still a skipped stitch every 30" or so. Often two close together.

    Unacceptable.

I played with the presser foot pressure and the results were inconsistent--just more or less skipped stitches.

I had switched to some Mettler metrosene Plus polyester thread...desperationparation I switched back to my usual polyester Guttermann. Just sewed some strips together and THERE'S NOT ONE SKIPPED STITCH.

    It was the thread!

    Huh.

    Back to sewing.

glad you figured out that the thread and machine don't play well together!

I had forgot about that...when I had trouble with skipped stitches it was because I was moving too fast and the pressure foot was set too high. Problem solved. :-)

I discovered that my machine really does not like the Metler variegated silk thread. Gave me all kinds of trouble!

My machine does not like Auriful. It works beautifully with Coats & Clark (it's like me--a cheap date LOL). I went thru all the steps you did to find out that it was a simple fix-change the thread.

At least that is an easy fix.

NOT necessarily...it could be that your needle did not match your thread size/weight!
Don't toss the thread, but when you have time do some testing...with other needles...I have one machine that has to have just the right thread/needle combination to work..or I get skipped stitches as well!

I find that Aufifil is so fine that it really likes a nice Microtex 70 needle...LOVE that thread...
If you knew what the C&C was doing to your machine...you would stop using it too....

Oh I won't toss it--it worked perfectly last week for all the machine quilting I did with a different color. Needed the thickness? No idea.

I wonder what would happen if I used the Mettler in the bobbin only... I have several wound.

It's so nice to check and see no skips!!
