    Default Skipped stitches

I have a Bernina 440 QE machine and lately when I use my walking foot and it is something thick like a potholder and I use zig zag I have good stitches and then it skips and makes longer ones and then back to correct and then skips again. Has anyone had this problem?

Mine will sometimes miss a zig zag on something thick as if the top thread doesn't meet up with the bobbin hook like it should. My 440 had to have a major repair after the timing went out from hitting something. It has been good on most things but will occasionally miss a zig zag.

What size needle are you using - I would think that you should be using about a 90, I think that this can sometimes cause issues.

I do think my machine needs to be taken in for a check up. I keep it clean but it probably needs some adjustments because I hit and broke a needle a few times. I am using a 90/14. thanks for the help.

Yes, Bernina need to go in for servicing every 12 to 18 months. Your tension may just be slightly off.

Your walking foot can also be serviced -- at my dealer it costs about $25.00 to service. I've had mine for years and just had it serviced for the first time!

A larger needle might help. I was sewing a handbag and had skipped stitches until I went up to a 16.

I've that problem too. I did several things at once so not sure what fixed it. Machine was clean so I changed to 16 needle, rethreaded, and forget what else.

Although you mention it only doing it with the walking foot...when my machine did it it was because i had neglected to clean the lint out of my bobbin case for a while. Just suggesting you take a look at that.
