I put the Slidelock on top and to the left of the ruler. That's the way it was demoed to me when it was first for sale some years ago at Paducah Quilt Show. it was first made for safety and now I think it has been shown as using for a ruler. I guess it sells better as a ruler instead of a safety tool for a ruler.

I bought the slide lock and believe it or not, it does move side to side about 1/8" or less. I'm not thrilled about that considering the cost. I bought both sizes and they both do it. So I can use it but I have to be sure to keep it perfectly still. The first time I tried it, it shifted a bit when I was cutting. The tool itself didn't slide or anything but the round ball things let it shift just a little bit. I can video it if anyone doesn't understand what I mean. I think it'll still be useful but I hate that I paid that much for them and they aren't perfect.
