So Excited! Almost done! One-Project-Rule here I come!

I would love to go with the one project rule because right now I am a bit overwhelmed with Christmas projects. My mind always races faster than my quilting though and I love the planning stage so that is my downfall. I am always thinking of the next and the next project.

I think I had better go back to the one project rule also. Now that you put it in words...... I seem to get a lot LESS done now that I have several projects going on. I seemed to get a whole lot more projects done when it was "one at a time". After I get caught up I think I will try that again and see how it works for me.

I normally have 2-3 going at a time. I like having different things to work on when the mood strikes. I have two paper piecing projects going, one a sampler, which is fun when I want variety, one is a more modern take on fabric use, but is simple enough I can make several blocks in quick succession, and one is a simple throw quilt I'm working on for our couch. Hoping to finish the top for the throw tonight, and baste tomorrow night after work, using our gigantic conf room table. Forcing myself to do one at a time would get me bogged down and turn my hobby into an obligation. My first quilt ever sat for probably 5 years needing only binding, but I didn't know how to do that step and so avoided it. A friend re-inspired me when she started quilting, so I asked her to show me how to bind it. That was about this time last year and I have since finished 5 quilts (all for others), and a large table runner placemat set that's about the size of a finished quilt if you combine all the pieces. That table runner set was my last gift project and I decided that i'm going to take it easy on those for a while. I don't want to feel pressure and deadlines outside of my work life. I work 2 jobs and at 70+ hours a week, I need quilting to be fun, creative, and relaxing. Making something for someone else adds pressure, and usually, I decided at the last minute 'oh, so and so's birthday is in 3 weeks! I should make her a quilt from a new pattern I've never done that uses a skill I've never done, and oh wouldn't some FMQ be nice..." Then I drive myself crazy obsessing and rushing to finish in time and pretty soon my relaxation time is the most stressful part of the day. Ha! The things I get myself into!

Congrats! Nothing like finishing up a project--especially one that has been "long in the doing"! No way I could stick to a one project rule--I have so many going right now that I'd be hard pressed to remember all--but suffice it to say that by this time next year I hope to have DD Storm at Sea done, a glorious kit (can't remember the name but all solids and wowser!) done, an art quilt that's been resting on the design wall for several months, a mini and my Guild challenge--an all HST bed quilt that I started in 2007!
