That is so great that she has your interest, I too am teaching my neigthbor to quilt, she wanted to make a baby quilt for a friends baby that is due in a couple of weeks so she picked a simple pattern and has the sewing down pat.
I am having fun helping her.

I'm jealous too. My daughter showed alittle interest in learning when she was about 15. But she got frustrated fast and hasn't asked again, she's 17 now. Maybe when she's an adult though. My mom wasn't a quilter but she always sewed and made lots of clothes (even my wedding dress!). Growing up, I always thought it was silly and didn't understand why she "wasted" her time. Now I understand so well!!!

Aw, thats really neat! I tried to teach my little Sister, and my Daughter how to sew, both got frustrated too. I DO have a 20 yo son, so maybe I have a chance, too!

Just wanted to share I started Quilting in 2002 at that time my granddaughter was 3 yrs she always wanted to help grandma make pretty. She is 11 yrs old now and can make a quilt top almost as good as I can. I am so proud of her. Now she wants to take knitting class thats one craft grandma never learned to do.Now she can teach me some thing new.

I'm just wondering what age is a good age for a child to be allowed to use the rotary cutter and the sewing machine? My DGD is 6, and I'm eagerly waiting to teach her. She lives far away in Ohio, but I have time with her every summer. Last summer I taught her hand sewing, and she and her brother both made pillows. Now I want to teach her quilting but I'm afraid she is too young yet.

At 6 I wouls think she is way too young for a rotary cutter. You can pre cut strips for her. I teach a sewing workshop every summer for 9 to 12 year olds, and they are allowed to sew on the machines, press, anything by hand, but not the cutters.

You can't "get rid" of the quilting bug by passing it on.
You've still got it! (This is not tag)
