Mine did the same. The top and backing were of any fabric that could be used. The batting was also anything that could be used. They were fastened together, with stitches or ties. IMO, those were the "real" quilts!

As long as you described it accurately, I don't see any reason why someone would complain.

Love the tee shirt quote, and all the other comments. Thanks, everyone. You all made me laugh, too.

So would the QP not consider a t-shirt quilt a legitimate quilt? I mean, some of the t-shirts might be a polyester/cotton blend, heaven forbid!

Some of the responses really gave me a good laugh!

Dogmatic, officious, uninformed snobs can be found almost anywhere. There is no reasoning with them, but please don't let them lower your understanding of your worth and that of your quilts.

I took my very first quilt (no instructions, no directions, no internet (!) since it was more than 50 years ago) to a beginning quilt group and was greeted "That is no quilt". As I said, more than 50 years ago and still remember how I felt. (I never went back) and am still quilting and learning as I go.

This person has just shown her ignorance & rudeness. You are right. Three layers sewn together is a quilt. She also didn't know that flannel is made from cotton. You stitched the thread through so you could tie it. She couldn't even be classed as quilt police because she obviously doesn't know the first thing about quilting. People like her should keep their lips firmly zipped. Carry on with what you are doing and enjoy your success. Sound like a case of sour grapes to me.

A tied quilt is a quilt tied!

oh good grief! Sounds to me like someone needs to get a life! I believe that flannel is brushed cotton and tied quilts are way older historically than what we do today ... so yeah, in my mind you made a quilt.

BTW ... Oldquilter ... hello from a native WV'n from the northern panhandle :-)
