I'm sure it will build quickly--fabric seems to multiply!

Thanks to everyone for the input!

I was telling my husband how helpful everyone on this board has been. When I mentioned the solids question I asked, he said,"Go to the website with the best price and buy one of each color--my treat"! What a guy! I got 28 (count 'em, 28) different colors at $2.99 per yard from Marshall's Dry Goods. Can't wait for them to arrive!

    ...and,no, ladies, I won't trade him!

Sounds like your husband is an enabler also! Enjoy! (Sounds like your next quilt should be for him!)

I have a hard time using solids. Too modern for me. I prefer tone on tones that read solid.

I can understand that. I tend to use them as accents. I have a weakness for very busy prints--the solids tone them down a bit. When I look at my GGM's quilts, I suspect she had the same idea. Her quilts were mostly cut from clothing, but I think she must have sewed and worn pretty loud dresses! My GM's are pretty sedate, so I'm guessing that in her the gene was recessive.

Whittles Fabrics have great prices, you might want to check them out. No matter how much you buy, $5.oo shipping.

He was pretty lucky you didn't go to Hancock's of Paducah and 'buy one of each' of the Kona Cotton Solids 256 colors they carry.

I knew better than to do that! He loves that I enjoy making quilts, but doesn't really understand the vastness of the selection of fabrics out there. I didn't want to exploit his generousity!

Whittles does look nice. I'll keep it in mind, thanks!
