    Cutting on the grain means with the threads. The threads are at 90 degree angles to each other. To get square blocks, start with square material. Line the template up with the threads. Keep a sharp blade in your cutter, press firmly and cut! :lol:
    I agree with the suggestions above for getting rid of the puckering and to be able to nest your corners. Practice!

    Thanks Loretta, I know that will be of great help. Klue, I hadn't thought of a beginner quilting book, will try and get to the library soon. I did buy a Sewing for Dummies book though, but it is at the house and I am at the apartment right now and there's 2.5 hours between. One day I will live in one place I hope. Meantime, this is all very helpful, and I appreciate folks taking time.
