    Default Someone should invent..

...or maybe already has? A flannel design sheet with lines or a 1" grid on it, so you can make sure you're putting your pieces up straight to view.

    I may make myself one.

There is such a thing and I have seen it in white and grey. It can be purchased online.

I covered one of the folding pattern boards with the grid flannel to take to retreats and classes. Works great and the board stand up by itself.

Yes, I bought a small piece of it for a small design wall for laying out multi fabric watercolor block. The lines were aqua.

I have a piece that is the same - got it long ago from a LQS when watercolour quilts were very popular. It has been very useful for many years
