Something seems missing....

A few days ago I convinced myself I was going to make a quilt for a friend of mine. Over a year ago she had to move three hours away from here when her husband lost his job and his mom offered him a job at her motel/bar. She confessed she was lonely because she hasn't really made any friends she really connects with and doesn't have family up there. And to top it all off she lives just a few miles from her overbearing MIL.
So I watched Nightmare Before Christmas (her favorite movie), watched all the special features, and downloaded some Halloween fabrics for EQ5. I was really inspired by that hill near the pumpkin patch at the beginning of the movie that swirls at the top. What I ended up making in EQ5 was...well, a Monkey Wrench, but with a few extra pieces to get the ends to curl just a little bit more. Hallween Town was limited to black, orange, and white for color and was given quite a lot of texture to make it look more illustration like. I'm hoping to find some black and orange fabrics with textures like swirls, tree knot like circles, and crosshatching to match this style. So its not a literal interpretation of the movie in terms of story line, but I think it has the spirit of Halloween Town.

But I feel like its missing something. (Kind of ironic since the main character in the movie feels like there's something missing in his life. lol.) What do you think?

I love the Halloween theme. I'm sure your friend will love it.
Just an FYI:
This is the Monkey Wrench/Churn Dash block:

What you made up in EQ is a Snail's Trail block:

;-) ;-) ;-)
I love Snail Trails quilts. One of these days I'm going to make the Shakepeare in the Park quilt by Judy Martin.
One of these days.

You could look at what you have here as a background and applique a cat or something to go with your theme, personal from you. Maybe do the label like that. Just a thought. It looks beautiful just like it is.
