So I bought a quilter's cut 'n press from Jo-ann's and I think that it stinks. Every time I iron on it it smells horrible. I am absolutely positive that it is this board and not the fabric or the iron. I don't have much room for quilting and my 3 year old loves to play under the ironing board so I bought this hoping to fix all of my problems but now I am beginning to rethink it. Anyways does anyone know what I need to do to get the smell out of this. Please help!

I don't know what to do to get the stink out but do have to share this story. At our Quilt Guild meeting, one of our members shared all of the gadgets and tools sold to us quilters.

(Now, mind you, this quilter has quilted since age 13 and has a published book----Thoroughly Modern Dresden, Anelie Belden.)

She had a cut and press board like you described and her comments were the same as you---P ---U! Several members also agreed that they had had the same experience with said ironing/cutting mat. Someone suggested that perhaps it was the glue they used??????

I know I'm not much help......

Well it's good to know that it isn't just mine that smells. I have been using it all night. I keep thinkin that maybe if I keep using it the smell will go away. So far no such luck lol.

Having something with a really strong chemical smell would be of concern to me. Don't know if this will work, but it shouldn't wreck it. Try putting it in a suitably sized bin bag and throw in a couple of handfuls of bicarbonate of soda tie up the bag and leave it overnight...bicarb is an excellent sucker up of odours.

Gee, I just bought one, have to run up stairs and try it to make sure it doesn't stink!

    Thanks for the warning.

Take it back. Have your iron in the car and if they give you any problems just give them a demonstration. They should refund your money or at least give you a store credit.

I bought a new pot holder that does the same thing! Every time I get something out of the oven with it, it STINKS! It must be something in the manufacturing process of the padding.

I bought a swivel board, and it also had an odor, but it wore off after a few days.
