Why vinegar? What does it do?

i do...if anything is not quite right- comes apart (once in awhile a seam may come loose) i know it first...i always want to make sure it will be all ok after the laundering process before letting anyone even see the quilt....they always come out so wonderful! theres just something special to pulling a fresh new quilt out of the dryer---and hugging it!

I do that as well. it sure makes things easier if the vinegar and a lot of salt goes in too. It stops the bleeding unless you get a stubborn piece of fabric which likes to test your patience.

I would first take a picture, then wash and dry it. All my quilts are used on beds or draft covers for things like fireplaces, so they will be washed! I love the look of a washed quilt!

I always wash mine when done. I like to wash out the starch and Elmer's glue that I use in constructing it. I also like the soft, crinkly look. I wash on delicate with a color catcher if I think I need one, then dry on low. It also helps remove stray threads, so I usually do my checking on those after it's washed...saves me a little time. :)

I think if I made an art quilt, I might not use starch or glue in it because I probably wouldn't wash that.

i wash if i'm giving it away so that i can be sure that there are no loose parts. it would be too embarrassing to have someone come back to me with a quilt that needs fixing.

Last stitch of PIECING or QUILTING? If piecing, no - wait until it's quilted and bound before you wash it.
