    Some sights suggest taping a playing card over the feeddogs to FMQ if you cannot drop your dogs.
    Also, it sounds like you need to get a FMQ foot that has a spring on it to help you out.
    As for the spacing of the stitches, I have looked at MANY quilts that were done by professionals, and even their stitchs are not always even. (It made me feel SO MUCH BETTER!!!) That comes with practice and after you wash it once, they are not as noticable.
    Be proud of the work you do, because only you (and us on the board) know how hard you have worked to finish it.
