From a discussion of sewing machines it seems to me that some of us don't use all of the features we have paid for. One issue seems to be about the number of decorative stitches available on most machines.

When you need inspiration or are in a sewing slump here's a way to bring a smile to your day.

Think about making samples (to refer to) of a few favorite decorative stitches using various threads
    - cotton for a matte finish, rayon for a shiny finish, metallic for a shiny zing finish, variegated for a small controlled burst of brightness (especially against a darker fabric)

Combine these thread finishes and color choices with some of these options for using decorative stitches that I do often

Purses - substitute for (or apply over) the topstitching around the upper edge of the bag, or highlight outside pockets

Totes - add a large pocket on the front then decorative stitch instead of just topstitch for added zing

Doll quilts - add to one of the borders instead of a SITD to hold layers together

Child PJ's - add to neck edge, cuffs or hem line (esp. variegated colors and child oriented stitches)

Large simple pattern quilts - add to large outer border for a surprise accent

Thank you for the ideas. I have two machines with a lot of the decorative stitches that I rarely utilize.
