    Back in the day, when I still did hand quilting I could only use a leather timble.

    I use soup spoons that have round bowls rather than oval ones. I can usually get old sets of 6 from junk shops/charity shops for about £2. Use them until they are really scratched then discard them.

    I would suggest that before you buy make sure the handle isn't too long/too short and that your thumb nestles comfortably in the bowl of the spoon. I find the shallower the bowl the better.
