Square quilt vs. Rectangular
Hi. I'm getting ready to start on my next quilt.
I'm going to make a granny square lap sized quilt.
I don't want a huge block design. So I'm making my blocks finish at approximately 15". But I quilt
straight lines on my dsm, didn't like free motion.
With sashing the width will be 66", but I don't want
to try to wrangle more than that under my machine
when I'm quilting it, so it would be 66" square, if I
make the length the same as width. Do you all preFer rectangular over square quilts?
Thanks!

I love square quilts. 65" square is my favorite size. Makes a large play mat for babies, is an oversized bedspread for toddler beds & transitions nicely into a lap quilt as they get older or looks decent as a topper on a twin bed. I love the symmetry of square quilts and enjoy the extra fabric on the sides when snuggling under them.
