Teresa Down under has a video on a square in a square on U-tube. She merely puts the square down on another piece of fabric that is laying right side up, and cuts out another one the same size, making a 'X' across the block, sews it all around the four sides, and carefully clipping on the 'X' mark to open up the square within a square. No math needed. I have shown it to others who wanted to try it. Seems simple enough on the few I made.

Ok, here is the difference between laying on right sides together or cutting the next square a 1/2 inch larger. You be the judge of it. [ATTACH=CONFIG]601805[/ATTACH]The first and second way of wrong sides marked with 'X' to cut on the lines.[ATTACH=CONFIG]601807[/ATTACH]The results in same order, left was right side on right side, and cut on 'X'; the second on the right was with a 1/2 added and cut on 'X', then sewn on to each side. Starched and pressed both, neither is trimmed.
