    That's a good question! I've never been sure I'm doing it correctly, though my quilts turn out fairly square. But I did read once about measuring diagonal corners and ends and middle, and that's what I do. I lay a tape measure diagonally across the quilt and if both diagonal corners aren't the same measure then I know it's out of square somehow and I have to find a way to fix it. I also measure both ends and the middle. And, as much as I hate doing it, I square up all my blocks before sewing them together with or without sashing.

    Squaring up -- any part, from HSTs to blocks to the whole quilt is actually the part of quilting I hate, by the way.

    Thank you. Your replies have been informative. It would seem like squaring as you go is the best solution. Extra work but worth it in the end.
