Default Sta Flo liquid starch. It's true it's being discontinued

A poster on Facebook received an answer from the company. It will not be made any more. Darn, something so basic to disappear.

It's already gone in stores within 25 miles of me. I didn't look any further than that.

I found a grocery store that had some last week and bought four half gallons. I left four on the shelf. I'm going back today to see if any is left. I'll buy it all.. I'll give each of my sewing group of bottle for Christmas.

Amazon has another brand of liquid starch called Linit Starch. $17 a half gallon. And a powder starch to dissolve in water called Simpli Starch that can be mixed as heavy or weak as you want it. 16 oz for $24. Weak, it will make 3 gallons. I have good results from ironing sprays but so much prefer starch.

What are your grandmother's recipies for starch? I don't think my grandmothers ironed and I have no idea what my great-grandmother's did.

I remember reading on the QB that potato-based vodka is supposed to work well.

My grandmother used powdered starch. Mixed a dishpan full and soaked the clothes in it, let dry and then sprinkled water on them while ironing. No steam irons then or she didn't have one.

Liquid starch is available but it's expensive compared to Sta Flo. The four bottles I found in a small town grocery last week were $4.19 for a half gallon jug, not on sale.

onebyone, do you think her powdered starch was cornstarch?

I kept looking for recipes and saw this website: https://brendid.com/3-ways-make-non-toxic-spray-starch/

two useful recipies on this website. the first way was no good -- cornstarch in water clogged sprayer. the second way was to cook the cornstarch in water and shake well. put it in glass sprayer bottle. The third recipe was with vodka.

Sta Flo prices on amazon are up to 18$ now. I wonder if the dollar stores carry it.... If anyone has a safeway or HEB nearby, be sure to check them out now if you want to squirrel away a bottle. And of course, we can call Henkel to beg them not to not off their starch product. https://www.henkel-northamerica.com/...local-presence Quilters Unite!
