I just recently made a Strata Star. I didn't have a pattern, so made some mistakes. It should have taken less than a day to do the star, but after my boo-boo, it sat for a day before I got the nerve to fix it, so it was more like 4 days before it got done. Looks OK now.

Bonnie Hunter (quiltville.com) has a beautiful free Ohio Star pattern in red, white, and blue. Check it out here: http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2005/...ars-rails.html

I found a pattern on quilterscache called "The Marine's Star" that is done in red, white, and blue. It is paper pieced and that might not be your thing but I do want to try it someday for my son, who served. I don't call him an ex-Marine because "Once a Marine, always a Marine".

Here's Jenny Doan's "Big Block Star Quilt" tutorial on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tkm3nCferp4
I am making 2 king size quilts of it right now.

My all time favorite is the 8-pointed star, as it can look entirely different with color placement. I have done it with red, white and blue stars for a family reunion quilt and it was beautiful, even if I do say so myself.
