ohh good idea! I have that book. I've made a lot of them already, so I'd have to make more. :) DH has already picked the colors for our state quilt (I'm embroidering the dates we've been in each state)

I have always loved the Prairie Star. (See below). It works great with paper piecing. You can also make a quilt in a "star set" where each regular block is set in the center of a star (like in the center of an Ohio Star)...or you could mix it up. If you want templates for the Prairie Star, I made some in EQ7. Send me a PM.

I would center it with a feathered star or Carpenter's star. I agree about meadering thru quilterscache.com for ideas. I have made a couple of star sampler quilts and enjoyed the experience. Martha Washington, Dolly Madison and 54'40" or Fight are ones I like particularly.

Same here. The Salem guild's raffle quilt for 2011 is made from this book. http://midvalleyquiltguild.com/page.php?page_id=1339

The Carpenter's Star does not need to be so large. The squares could be made whatever size you wanted, right down to a mini at 1" finished.

There is a totally awesome website called Dream Castle Quilts that did a 2010 BOW of paper pieced stars. Check them out (2 pages of stars). They all finish at 12".
