There are so many to choose from, but I would use the friendship star, Ohio star, my favorite - the 8 pointed star, Hope of Hartford star, and the list goes on. I love star blocks and would have to say the eight pointed star is one of my favorites, as you can make so many variations - putting a 9-patch or 4-patch in the center square, square in a square, and the lsit goes on. The possibilities are endless, in fact I would have trouble decided which ones would not go into the quitl.

I made my husband a sampler for our 10th wedding anniversary last year. All the blocks are 12" and all of them are from www.quilterscache.com

I just searched the site for 12" finished blocks.

KP what a beautiful red/white/blue quilt! I wish I could learn to do paper piecing like the other blocks shown. I just cant get the hang of it. My favorite block is Double Aster. It looks complicated but its really not! My suggestion is to try different ones on scrap material until you find the ones you are comfortable making but most of all have FUN!!

I really like your idea of making a sampler quilt with different star patterns. That will go on my to do list.

There's also a really cool split LeMoyne Star that's really striking if you do it in bold, contrasting colors. It's what's in the middle of my sampler!
