    Like the other posts , I starch just prior to cutting. No need to do the work until you are getting ready for a your project.

    I don't starch. I also don't make the most perfect show worthy quilts either. I quilt as a hobby and adding too many extra steps kills the fun for me.

    When I lived down south I was told to put a bay leaf in with my starched fabric to keep the bugs away. I did. No bugs.

    Now I no longer use starch but Best Press. I now live in Arizona and doubt that bugs would be a problem anyway.
