I find it much harder to FMQ on my Pfaff QE4 which doesn't have a Start/Stop button than my Janome which has one. I simply set the speed and off I go!
I'm getting to used to the QE pedal now - I just set the speed and it's 'pedal to the metal', lol. I think, as a new quilter, when I learned to FMQ with the Start/Stop button it's harder for me to now try and control the speed with a pedal (instead of the fabric movement).

I've been using that method for a long time! It really helps me to FMQ because I don't have to worry about my foot....I only deal with my hands and the timing and speed of the movement. It is pretty awesome.

I have a stop/start button on my Janome, plus a speed regulator, which I use for FMQ. Of course, I have it set on a slow speed. I find I get it done faster by going slower because I make fewer errors I have to stop and fix. LOL! Maybe I will gain speed over time. Anyway, I'm going to try tapping the foot control, just to see if that works on my machine! Probably not. . .
