You can set the speed so that it doesn't run away with you. It works great.

I have the Viking Ruby and the Designer 1 and it works with both machines. I also set my speed on medium.--these are tips from my Viking dealer

I have that machine too and love that feature. I didn't discover it for awhile and didn't like moving my hands from the fabric to push the button. And half the time I pressed the wrong button. Tapping the foot pedal to stop is so much better!

I have discovered that free motion quilting using the start/stop button helps keep me at a consistent speed and my stitches look better. I just tap the foot pedal when I want yo stop! Have I been living under a mushroom? Is everyone doing it this way who have that feature on their machine?
Thanks for this info. I have the stop/start feature but I'm always afraid to use if for fear I'll continue sewing as I try to stop it. Let's just say I'm not well coordinated :-(
