I have a Elna 740 and it has a speed regulator too. It also has the stop start button but if the foot controller is hooked up the stop start button don't work. How are you using them together, never heard of this. I alos have a Viking Diamond, have never tried this on it, guess I will have to experiment.

I had no idea about using this feature for free motion quilting! I've had my Sapphire 875Q for 4 years and still have so much to learn about it. I will have to try this! Unfortunately, mine has been in the shop too many times. I'm hoping after this last go 'round that my machine and I can "become friends"! I loved my old Viking, but have not been enamored with this one.

On the babylock quilters choice, the bottom button to the right of the needle is the start and stop, but will only work if the foot pedal is not connected. I just found this out, too. I have not been able to try it out or felt comfortable with stopping sewing, my foot automatically does the work for me.

The start/stop is just about the only thing I LOVE about my Pfaff 1.5. I press the start button once I've set the speed I want, my foot doesn't have to be on the pedal at all, then when I want to stop I just press the foot pedal. I have been looking at Janomes and was surprised that you have to unplug the foot pedal to use the start/stop button - I don't want to take my hands off the quilt to hit the stop button.
