a tip for following patterns or pantos, do not try to go real slow and stay on the lines, your stitches will be all wobbly, you get smoother lines with a bit of speed and of course you'll get off the lines but it's kindergarten, you gotta work your way up.
i know there is no such thing as cheap fabric but if you can get some maybe scraps and sew pieces together to practice on so you get used to hitting seams and don't allow them to knock you off course
when doodling , don't move your wrist like when writting, use your whole arm, like when quilting.

OK, you showed me yours, so I'll show you mine. This is the ugly quilt I practiced on. At the top, there is a pinwheel section that's folded over. The first pic is the quilt, the second is a close up of the quilting in the muslin section, the red arrow is a line of computerized quilting. The last on is the pin wheels. I drew lines to show where the blocks are...

Kathy, thanks for your encouragement. I need to work on my tension a bit and I've been sewing on a computerized machine so long I keep forgetting to lower the presser foot. I've been practicing on paper too. I agree with choosing a thread that will blend, but I need to see what I'm doing right now.
