As one who has tons of fat quarters, I would go with SKINNY.
You can use for strips, inner borders, or even borders for wallhangings.

Fat! I wait until our LQS has her Friday the 13th sale. Any time the 13th falls on a Friday, she sells FQ for $1.33 each in lots of 13.

I have so many fat quarters that I am not buying any at this time. If I see something I like I am buying 1 1/2 yard to 3 yard pieces. :D

I prefer 9 inch by 44 inch. Two reasons: Matching pattern and the cost.

As an appliquer, I buy fat quarter assortments for a particular quilt.

As a quilter, if I like a fabric, & it will be the main fabric for a quilt, I never buy less than 3 yards.

If it's a sale,,, I stock up on neutrals, usually 5 yds.

I've done both. Sometimes buying them skinny is cheaper.
