I can't decide if it is good to only award quality entries or if the judges were being too tough. Do you think these results encourages or discourages participation in the quilt show?
The rules state: “Where there is only one item entered in a class, a blue ribbon, if merited, will be awarded. Where articles are not worthy of first prize, judges may, at their discretion, award a ribbon of such grade as the article deserves.”
This year’s results:
6001-Machine pieced, hand quilted
Three entries
One third-place ribbon awarded
6002-Machine pieced, machine quilted (domestic)
Four entries
One first-place ribbon awarded
6004-Hand pieced, hand quilted
Two entries
One third-place ribbon awarded
6005-Appliqued by hand
Three entries
One first-place ribbon awarded
6007-Mixed techniques
Five entries
No ribbons awarded
6009-Crib or other small bed quilt
Five entries
First and second-place ribbons awarded
6010-Novelty quilt
Two entries
One first-place ribbon awarded
6011-Doll Quilt
Three entries
First and second-place ribbons awarded
This totals eight categories where all ribbons were not awarded. There were six other categories that awarded all ribbons.

Another thread on the same subject is on the go ...... and may be a good read to go with this thread.
Fair quilt judging. No fair at all.
At first thought it seems that the judge was on a real power trip!
However, without seeing the quilts ..... none of us really have any way of truly knowing.
Some questions that I would be asking at this point ......
Is this the norm for that Fair?
IOW how do these results compare to previous years?
Were Judge's comments given for each quilt?
