I'm a virgin quilter and going to quilt my 1st using stitch in the ditch with invisible thread .004. Do I use this in my bobbin also, or regular quilting thread? Help me please.
PS. Love this web site. Lot's of help!

I've been told to use standard thread in the bobbin, and invisible thread on the topstitch. I tried using invisible thread in the bobbin, and don't recommend it unless you have a death wish or would like to invent new curse words!!! In that case, however, it is very effective!

If its your first .. I would recommend regular thread in the bobbin. Invisable thread can be a bit tricky.. and it will be easier to trouble shoot tension issues if its only one thread.
A couple of notes:
1 Do a test on scrap fabric using same batting and fabric as will beused in the quilt ... You may have to loosen the top tension... this is the most common issue.
2. I have the best success using a smaller needle 70 or 65.
3. Use a cone holder for the thread so it has ample distance to relax before going through your tension disks.
4. If you do choose to use invisable in the bobbin wind it SLOWELY .. so as not to stretch the thread as it winds onto the bobbin.
5. Do not use the cheap invisable thread that comes on spool ...plastic coated to a card at Jo'Ann's .... it can be nothing but trouble! I thought I was never going to have success till I found using a better invisable thread made ALL the difference.
