Mine look the same length as my sewing stitches. Someone else was having the same problem. Maybe they have an answer. I hope you find out.

when quilting with the walking foot I increase my stitch size to 3.5. I attach my binding with the walking foot and increase to 2.8.
If it is stitching to slow with the walking foot increase your stitch length.

Try on a sample first. I also use a longer stitch length when quilting.

As I understand it, regardless of stitch lenth, your quilt should move through with ease if the tension is adjusted properly for the thickness of the quilt. If your stitch length is teeny-tiny, the quilt will move through much slower than the length you had used while piecing the quilt top. So, take a look at the tension and see if your quilt is puckering or refuses to budge. If it is, the tension is likely too tight. Ease up on the tension and see if that works better for you. Some machines have a different adjustor for the tension for their bobbin, also.

You'll need to drop your feed dogs if you're doing free-motion quilting. Tension is not a factor in this case, and your fabrics should move through without any problems (but, then again, you wouldn't use a walking-foot with free-motion quilting).

You would loosen your top (thread) tension. Your machine manual should tell you how.

It takes practice! Machines can be finicky, lots of times you have to pet them and sweet talk them and get them *just* right!
